Vehicle motion management

Vehicle dynamics control 2.0 combines traditional brake control with additional actuators. Thanks to the intelligent interplay between all available motion actuators, the feature provides extra safety and agility, especially in highly dynamic driving situations such as evasive maneuvers or cornering.

eBrake to Zero ensures that the electric motor brakes the vehicle comfortably to a standstill by optimally controlling the electric drive and the brake system, without the need for the hydraulic brake to intervene. The function thus prevents the unpleasant jerk of the vehicle shortly before stopping. For the vehicle occupants, the brake interventions, for example in stop-and-go traffic, become much more pleasant and comfortable.

Bosch offers a modular and scalable reference architecture for the deployment of motion features for maximum flexibility, but also standardized in order to reduce complexity.

The basis for the architecture is a central efficiency and arbitration layer which includes several motion features depending on specific use cases and requirements. The features are clustered into:

• longitudinal guidance and dynamics
• lateral guidance and dynamics
• fundamental data (e. g. vehicle state estimation)

All interfaces in between the different modules and to the sensor and actuator levels are standardized, which helps to reduce the complexity in setting up the architecture and enables scalability. In particular, Bosch can also use software or software components from vehicle manufacturers and easily integrate them into the architecture in order to create the desired DNA for the vehicle motion behavior.

Data-based services use, for example, information from the vehicle’s sensor data to generate information about road condition and friction values. In the cloud, this sensor data is combined with information from other vehicles as well as data from weather services, so that the driver can be promptly warned of dangers such as aquaplaning, slippery road surfaces, potholes or speed bumps.
